Welcome to the Poor Proles Almanac!
The Poor Prole’s Almanac is a project dedicated to developing a framework for an ecology-centered vision of the world after capitalism inevitably collapses. Our focus is to make ecology and agriculture accessible, replicable locally, and to highlight examples of resilience in history & people actively developing those systems in real time.
If the idea of building a better, sustainable world in which humans drive positive change through our relationship with nature across the planet, then this project is for you.
This project is not funded by ads, sponsors, or anything but our listeners. We are accountable to you, and we strive to make the best content possible!
The Team
Andy
Andy is an accountant, farmer, writer, and spends his free time focused on food sovereignty, through a variety of formal and informal institutions. While the host and primary researcher for the Poor Proles Almanac, he also co-hosts Tomorrow, Today, The Gastropocene miniseries, and he’s currently in the process of authoring three books through Bread & Roses Press. Andy’s also the founder of the Proles Network, which currently hosts four podcasts, and more coming. Andy can be found scouring New England looking for lost cultivars of nut trees and restoring ecosystems he may or may not have legal access to.
Elliott
Elliott’s passion is food; talking about it, understanding its history, making it, and of course– sharing it. His interest in exploring whole animal/plant cooking and firearms has led to a passion to close the cycle of food production and consumption, and understanding what that looks like at a community level.
Matt
Matt really loves worms. Not as much as silvopasture, but his passion for ecology drives his farm work. Matt’s spent time working on a number of different types of farms, from greenhouses to regenerative pig and goat farms and more. Matt is the tech savvy member of the team, and keeps the podcast from being delivered on stone tablets.
Nash
Nash is more of a duck girl, but that’s about the extent of her interest in farming. A researcher by trade and a comedian by night, Nash provides constructive feedback and research help, while also keeping Andy’s bad jokes in check (mostly). You can also find Nash occasionally performing stand-up in Boston, New York, and Chicago, & you can also find her podcast Death & Friends to hear her unique voice, or you can simply tune into Tomorrow, Today, since she’s Andy’s co-host.
Richard Danger
Richard Danger is the embodiment of citizen science, providing research content for the team based on their needs. They also provide the bedrock for the discord page and organizes much of the native plant nursery project. Be like Richard.
Dom
No one knows what Dom does other than edit our podcasts. We’re not even sure he’s let out of the basement.
Other Matt
Other Matt is our website guy. One day he will snap and shut all of this down forever.
